About the Player
A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: Leading the National League “all star” contingent in Arch Ward’s Game of the Century will be former NY Giants manager John J. McGraw. There could be no one better or more deserving. After a stellar career as a player for Ned Hanlon’s famous Baltimore Orioles, McGraw managed the Giants and ruled with an iron hand from the end of the 1902 season until he retired halfway through last season. During those 30 years McGraw’s men finished first or second 21 times and won 10 NL pennants and 3 World Championships. Under McGraw the Giants landed in the win column an amazing 2,840 times. Insisting that he has no plans to manage again after the NL-AL exhibition game, the 60-year-old is looking forward to a long, well-earned, and happy retirement.
