About the Player
You know Mr. Mack was desperate when he was willing to part with Al Simmons last year in exchange for mere lucre. After all, Simmons is Mack’s all time favorite. And why not? “Bucket Foot Al” is a fine outfielder and the best hitter the A’s ever had. He batted better than .380 4 times with Philadelphia, won the 1930 and 1931 batting titles, and was named league MVP in 1929 when the A’s won their first pennant since 1914. Simmons is still adjusting to Comiskey’s longer fences but being reunited with Mack for the big AL vs. NL exhibition is sure to rejuvenate him.
About the Series
Helmar Imperial Cabinets are mammoth. Each is about the size of a sheet of paper. They are thick, sturdy, and beautiful. There are two series in this set; series one measures 8.25' x 10.875', while series two is a shade smaller. The second series features a multi-colored border. The art was produced using a variety of methods. Each card takes a long time to assemble, to scrape, rub, treat, and transform, so it seems that you are holding a huge, overwhelmingly-beautiful card from the turn of the last century.
