About the Player
A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: “Dizzy” Dean is the moundleader of the “Gas House Gang.” He has never had a losing season for the Cardinals, racking up 18 wins in ’32, 20 in ’33, 30 in ’34, 28 in ’35, and 24 in ’36, with a season’s ERA never above 3.17. “Ol’ Diz” won 2 games and lost 1 in the Cardinals’ victorious 1934 World Series. During the 7th game, which the Cardinals won 11-0, player-manager Frankie Frisch called time and warned Dizzy that he will be removed from the game unless he stops clowning around. Dizzy replied, “No you won’t,” and Frisch silently retreated to his position. Dizzy is 6’2” and 183 pounds.
About the Series
Helmar Imperial Cabinets are mammoth. Each is about the size of a sheet of paper. They are thick, sturdy, and beautiful. There are two series in this set; series one measures 8.25" x 10.875", while series two is a shade smaller. The second series features a multi-colored border. The art was produced using a variety of methods. Each card takes a long time to assemble, to scrape, rub, treat, and transform, so it seems that you are holding a huge, overwhelmingly-beautiful card from the turn of the last century.
