About the Player
A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: “Happy Jack” won 28 games with Pittsburgh in 1902, following with 21 for the Highlanders. Last year he won a remarkable 41, making his three year total 90 games the victor. Equally noteworthy, perhaps, was his 454.2 innings pitched last season, easily the best in the league. Born in North Adams, Mass., during 1874. He is 5 feet and 9 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds.
About the Series
Seven layers make up a Helmar Oasis card. Each layer has to fit perfectly. It takes a long time to construct each card, then scuff it to make it seem well-worn; it's already well-loved, by us. Oasis is designed to evoke the Gaslight Style, a name applied to commercial trade signs of the 1870's through 1890's, in an era that succumbed to electric light. The essence of Helmar Oasis is depth. The pictures of the players arise in a shadowy light, to seem like they're almost emerging from another plane of existence. Each card is about 2.65' x 4'.
