About the Player
A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: Cleveland’s Wes Ferrell is another pitcher with a smoking fast ball Connie Mack can call on to stymie NL batters in the upcoming so-called “all star” game. If Ferrell can control his temper, that is. The hot head was suspended and fined by mgr. Peckinpaugh in 1932 for refusing to leave a game. Under control, Wes is tough to beat. He set a record by winning 20 or more games his first 4 years in the big leagues, and he threw a no-hit game at the St. Louis Browns in 1931. No cake at bat, Ferrell slammed 9 home runs that same year.
About the Series
Seven layers make up a Helmar Oasis card. Each layer has to fit perfectly. It takes a long time to construct each card, then scuff it to make it seem well-worn; it's already well-loved, by us. Oasis is designed to evoke the Gaslight Style, a name applied to commercial trade signs of the 1870's through 1890's, in an era that succumbed to electric light. The essence of Helmar Oasis is depth. The pictures of the players arise in a shadowy light, to seem like they're almost emerging from another plane of existence. Each card is about 2.65' x 4'.
