About the Player
The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: One fact speaks mountains about this veteran Giant. Of all four pennants captured by the Giants since 1923, Travis Jackson is the one player to appear on each of those teams. A collision the year before he joined the team nearly ended his life, so every day as a Giant is a bonus. The trading of Dave Bancroft the following year made way for Travis to become the regular shortstop and he has been there ever since. He’s played in four World Series including last year’s loss to the Yankees in six games. Travis managed to bat just .190.
About the Series
Seven layers make up a Helmar Oasis card. Each layer has to fit perfectly. It takes a long time to construct each card, then scuff it to make it seem well-worn; it's already well-loved, by us. Oasis is designed to evoke the Gaslight Style, a name applied to commercial trade signs of the 1870's through 1890's, in an era that succumbed to electric light. The essence of Helmar Oasis is depth. The pictures of the players arise in a shadowy light, to seem like they're almost emerging from another plane of existence. Each card is about 2.65' x 4'. Gouache paintings by J. Scott Pedely.
