About the Player
"Bill" Binga had a long career as a third baseman, catcher and manager. Born in 1869, he first played for the Page Fence Giants in 1895. His career took him to several states and he spent seasons with the Chicago Union Giants, the Philadelphia Giants and St. Paul Colored Gophers.
About the Series
Seven layers make up a Helmar Oasis card. Each layer has to fit perfectly. It takes a long time to construct each card, then scuff it to make it seem well-worn; it's already well-loved, by us. Oasis is designed to evoke the Gaslight Style, a name applied to commercial trade signs of the 1870's through 1890's, in an era that succumbed to electric light. The essence of Helmar Oasis is depth. The pictures of the players arise in a shadowy light, to seem like they're almost emerging from another plane of existence. Each card is about 2.65" x 4". Gouache paintings by J. Scott Pedely.
