About the Player

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Born October 14, 1896, in Indianapolis, Indiana. This fellow has often been compared to the best players in the white big leagues. He’s speedy on the basepaths and can play such a shallow center field that he reminds people of Tris Speaker. A fierce batter, “Charlie” led the Negroes in 1921 by hitting .434 with 14 doubles, 11 triples, 15 home runs and 35 stolen bases. He did all this in just 60 games. Like many of the Negroes, he’s played with a number of different teams. They include the ABC’s of Indianapolis, St. Louis Giants, Pittsburgh Crawfords, Hilldale Daisies and many others. He also enjoys playing in the Cuban league during the winters.

About the Series

Each Helmar T3 is 8.5" x 4.25", close in size and style to the beautiful cards that make up the original T3 Turkey Red series of 1911.
