About the Player
A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: This native of Oglesby, Illinois was born on April 23, 1900. He began his career with Mitchell in the South Dakota League in 1920,making a good showing. St. Louis was pleased to bring him up at the tail of 1922. He impressed them by hitting .325 in 37 games and has been a regular ever since. The team depends upon him to bring in the runs, he often has over 100 runs batted in over a season. Is a good fielder at first base. Is a left-hander, is 6 feet long and weighs 180 pounds.
About the Series
Seven layers make up a Helmar Oasis card. Each layer has to fit perfectly. It takes a long time to construct each card, then scuff it to make it seem well-worn; it's already well-loved, by us. Oasis is designed to evoke the Gaslight Style, a name applied to commercial trade signs of the 1870's through 1890's, in an era that succumbed to electric light. The essence of Helmar Oasis is depth. The pictures of the players arise in a shadowy light, to seem like they're almost emerging from another plane of existence. Each card is about 2.65' x 4'.
