About the Player
A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: No one is surprised that honorary NL manager John McGraw plans to start screwball throwing Carl Hubbell in the midseason Game of the Century. The Detroit Tigers who once owned Hubbell let him go because they feared the trick pitch would ruin his arm. McGraw had managed the great Mathewson who mastered the screwball so he was not worried about King Carl throwing it. Last year Hubbell won 18 games while lowering his ERA to 2.50, and this year he is on pace to cross the 20-win threshold for the first time. Hub is sure to make life miserable for all those right-handed sluggers in the AL lineup.
About the Series
The glory of 19th century design is revisited in this series by your friends at Helmar. We've kept the look of the early line drawings but improved them so that the players are recognizable. Yet again, all the artwork is original to Helmar and printed in stunning color. We've chosen a beautiful paper with a soft hand that tested best for the subtle color transitions. Each card is about 3" x 5".
