About the Player
A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Ray was born January 15, 1891, in Beaver Dam, Kentucky. At age 19 he played his first pro ball, splitting the 1910 season between the Springfield Senators and the Davenport Prodigals in the IIIL League. The next season he really started to get a handle on the bat and, after playing well for Davenport moved up to the Toledo Mud Hens at the end of the year. Batted .310 for them in 1912 so Cleveland brought him to the big club in time to play 31 games for them and hit .312. Usually found at the short-stop position but can play the second bag and even the outfield if needed.
About the Series
The glory of 19th century design is revisited in this series by your friends at Helmar. We've kept the look of the early line drawings but improved them so that the players are recognizable. Yet again, all the artwork is original to Helmar and printed in stunning color. We've chosen a beautiful paper with a soft hand that tested best for the subtle color transitions. Each card is about 3" x 5".
