About the Player
A short bio from the Helmar “This Great Game” card back: 18-year old Mr. Kaline was wearing his prom suit at his parents’ kitchen table when he put his name on his first contract with the Detroit Tigers. Two years later, Al was a batting champion, the youngest in major league history. The winter before capturing the batting crown, Kaline heeded the advice of Ted Williams and squeezed a rubber ball to strengthen his wrists. Teddy Ballgame picks Al as “the most complete righthanded batter in the league,” and if anyone knows, it’s Williams.
About the Series
The glory of 19th century design is revisited in this series by your friends at Helmar. We've kept the look of the early line drawings but improved them so that the players are recognizable. Yet again, all the artwork is original to Helmar and printed in stunning color. We've chosen a beautiful paper with a soft hand that tested best for the subtle color transitions. Each card is about 3" x 5".
