About the Player

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Josh has won 9 home run titles and 4 batting crowns in 13 full seasons in the Negro Leagues. His lifetime average is .384, tops among all black players. He has hit many homers that measure 600’ or longer, making him the “Black Babe Ruth” and a giant among ballplayers. During the cold winter months Josh can usually be found playing ball in Cuba or Latin America. He likes to keep in top baseball shape the year around and credits his work ethic for his wonderful success.

Seven layers make up a Helmar Oasis card. Each layer has to fit perfectly. It takes a long time to construct each card, then scuff it to make it seem well-worn; it's already well-loved, by us. Oasis is designed to evoke the Gaslight Style, a name applied to commercial trade signs of the 1870's through 1890's, in an era that succumbed to electric light. The essence of Helmar Oasis is depth. The pictures of the players arise in a shadowy light, to seem like they're almost emerging from another plane of existence. Each card is about 2.65' x 4'.
