About the Player
A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: Harold Joseph “Pie” Traynor is considered by most experts to be the greatest third baseman ever. Traynor has the record to back up such an opinion. Now in his 14th season, all with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pie has batted over .300 8 times, including a string of 6 consecutive years when he averaged .342. The Framingham, MA native also has no equal as a defender of the Hot Corner. Possessor of a tremendous arm, Traynor frequently leads the league in Put Outs and DPs and is death on bunts and slow choppers. He hit a home run off the great Walter Johnson in the 1925 World Series and will be a tough out against the AL stars in the Game of the Century.
About the Series
Helmar's Boston Garter tradition of strikingly original artwork takes a giant leap forward in this celebration of the first All-Star game, known at the time as the 'Game of the Century'. Thirty-six players and both managers appear in the joyful Art Deco style that defined the period. For the first time we are hand numbering each card. Just twenty sets are printed and numbered plus four sets of artist's proofs. Each card is 3' x 5'.
