About the Player
A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: In Boston, centerfield belongs to this six foot, two inch slugger. In his very first season, 1930, the 24 year old rookie pounded 38 home runs and brought home 119 runs batted in. His batting average was .310, and Braves fans quickly made him a favorite. He’s kept his average over the .300 mark every season since, so it was no fluke. “Wally” has also batted in more than 100 runs three times since, including 130 last year. That was more than any other National League batter could muster for the entire 1935 season. Boston always seems to bring up the rear in the standings but Wally is a bright spot.
About the Series
Die cut cards in the style of the 1934-36 National Chicle series. These sepia-toned cards often have dashes of reds and yellows that add a lot of character to the card. Place a finger on each end and give a gentle squeeze; the player pops up from the card. There are 104 cards in the set at a size of 2.25' x 3'.
