About the Player
The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: “Bing” is a steady outfielder for Connie Mack’s A’s. Mr. Mack traded Bing to the Browns in 1926, yet had a change of heart and brought Bing back to Philadelphia in ’28. Bing’s high-water mark is a .331 average in 1929, with 184 hits. In the 1929 World Series against the Cubs, Bing smacked the hit that won Game 5, 3-2, and the Series 4 games to 1. He was a big part of the A’s teams that bested the Cardinals in the Series in ’30, and that came up short against the Redbirds in the Series in ’31. Bing is a righty in the outfield and at the plate. He stands an even 6 feet, and weighs 185 pounds.
