About the Player

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: The general guess is that Jack Quinn is 48 years old. But he could be 49, or 50—he won’t tell. Hailing from Pennsylvania coal country, Jack made his debut way back in 1909 with the Highlanders, when he was—probably—25 years old. Jack doesn’t walk a lot of batters, and doesn’t strike out too many either. He gets ’em with a fastball, “dry” spitter, and changeup. He’s one of the last pitchers in the majors still allowed the throw the spitter. On June 27th, 1930, playing for the A’s, at age 46, he became the oldest player to hit a home run. He’s giving Methuselah a run for his money.
