The poses chosen, and treatment of them, capture the essence of cabinet photography from the 19th Century and early 20th Century. Most of these cabinets were enhanced with traditional colored pencil, a method that sometimes yields results that foreshadow pop and other modern art styles.
Player and team names written on the images mimic a photographer's scratch on glass plate when identifying the subject of their work. The thickness and backboard designs vary widely within this first series and is considered part of the charm. This first series of cabinet cards consist of 85 cards at a size of 6" x 3.625".
