The New York Black Yankees were founded in Harlem and originally known as the Harlem Black Bombers. Just two years later (nineteen thirty-three) they were renamed as the Black Yankees. One of the original investors was the famous dancer Bojangles Robinson. In 1936 the team, previously independent, joined the Negro National League and remained there through 1948. There is one Black Yankee in the series, Walter Hardy (#278).
